The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned a new fast patrol vessel (FPV) during a ceremony at Goa Shipyard (GSL) on Friday, October 9.

ICGS Ajit ("Invincible") is the seventh of eight Adamya-class FPVs being built by GSL for the ICG. She will be based at Okha and assigned missions including surveillance, search and rescue, counter-smuggling, and pollution response.

The ICG took delivery of the vessel from GSL on August 25. Ajit was launched at the shipyard on October 24, 2025, alongside sister vessel Aparajit, the eighth and final unit in the series.

The contract for all eight vessels dates to March 2022.

More than 60 per cent of the content used in Ajit's construction is indigenous. The Indian Ministry of Defence said GSL designed and built the vessels.

Ajit has a length of 52 metres, a beam of eight metres, a draught of just under 2.5 metres, a displacement of 320 tonnes, and a crew of 39. The propulsion delivers a top speed of 27 knots and a range of 1,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 14 knots.

The main armament is a 30mm naval gun supplemented by two 12.7mm machine guns. All three weapons are fitted on remotely controlled and stabilised mounts.

The Adamya-class FPVs are also used for exclusive economic zone patrols, counter-piracy missions, fisheries enforcement, and the protection of offshore assets. In wartime, the vessels are expected to perform secondary duties as escort and communications relay platforms.
