Desan Shipyard in Turkey has begun construction of a new multi-role vessel ordered by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

Designated a "multi-purpose mission ship" (MPMS), the vessel will be classed by Türk Loydu and will measure 99 metres long upon completion. It will have facilities for storage and deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles capable of vertical takeoffs and landings.

The MPMS was designed to be able to operate at sea for up to 30 days and will be equipped with a helipad, medical facilities, a detention facility, and space for four fast interceptor boats. Accommodation will be available for 70 crewmembers and up to 30 additional personnel.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery to the MMEA in 2027. Its main area of operations will encompass the South China Sea, where it will perform a range of missions including maritime border patrols, law enforcement, and fisheries enforcement.

Construction of the MPMS commenced with a steel-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 9, less than five months after the signing of the contract between Desan and the Malaysian Ministry of the Interior.
