A man in his 50s was airlifted to hospital after being crushed between a boat and a fish cage at an aquaculture site in Åfjord, Norway, on Tuesday, October 20.
Trøndelag Police District said the man had become trapped between the boat and the cage while working over the boat's gunwale. Police added that he had not been in the water at any point.
The site is operated by SalMar, according to local newspaper Hitra-Frøya.
Emergency services and an air ambulance were dispatched to the scene. The man was flown to St. Olavs Hospital in Trondheim. He was awake and conscious when emergency personnel reached him.
Police operations leader Einar Røstum told NRK that the man's injuries were moderate. "But there is considerable pain in the body. Substantial forces have been involved," he said.
A police patrol conducted enquiries at the fish cage after the man was evacuated. Police later said officers had completed their examinations at the scene, taken witness statements and secured video of the incident. They have opened a case.
The accident follows a crushing incident aboard the fish feed vessel Eidsvaag Marin in Stavanger last year, in which a crewman in his 30s was killed.
