Brittany Ferries adds daily Guernsey–Portsmouth service and Cherbourg link

The winter programme will combine direct sailings with a triangular route via Cherbourg, while Guernsey’s contracted freight and passenger capacity is to be maintained.

Brittany Ferries will increase its conventional Guernsey–Portsmouth service from six days a week to daily from November 1, and introduce a passenger connection between Guernsey and Cherbourg.

The winter schedule includes direct voyages as well as a triangular route through Cherbourg, operated by Islander. The Guernsey–Cherbourg passenger crossing will take about three and a half hours.

The States of Guernsey said on September 29 that the winter and summer schedules had received in-principle approval, with final technical integration of border controls still to be completed.

Winter bookings are open for travel from November 1, 2026, to March 21, 2027. The summer 2027 timetable is due to be released on October 5.

Contracted freight and passenger capacity will be maintained and protected from displacement by traffic elsewhere in Brittany Ferries’ network.

The additional Sunday sailing will provide a daily freight service between Portsmouth and Guernsey, intended to strengthen supply-chain resilience.

Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, President of the Committee for Economic Development, said nearly all of Guernsey’s supply chain was tied to the UK.

She said Cherbourg offered opportunities to import food and building materials and export local seafood.

Passengers travelling from Guernsey to Portsmouth via Cherbourg will need a valid passport for UK re-entry.

This applies to Wednesday–Sunday winter sailings and Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday summer sailings; direct sailings and Portsmouth–Guernsey crossings are unaffected.

Brittany Ferries said its Cherbourg connection would give unaccompanied hauliers access to southwest France and the Iberian Peninsula via the company's daily multimodal rail service to Bayonne.

The timetable follows the company’s June plan to reorganise services from November 1, which included closing Poole–Cherbourg and selling Barfleur. The Voyager service between Saint-Malo, Guernsey and Poole will remain unaffected.
