A new fast ferry ordered by Norwegian operator Fjord1 will not be delivered this year as originally scheduled despite having already been launched.
Alversund is the newbuild assigned to Nordhordlandsruta, connecting Knarvik and Frekhaug with Strandkaien in Bergen. Fjord1 described the vessel as a low-emission ferry with capacity for 199 passengers forming part of its city-boat programme in Vestland.
Local newspaper Avisa Nordhordland reported on December 12, 2025, that Fjord1 had reached an agreement to complete the vessel. Delivery was then expected at the end of June 2026.
The newspaper subsequently described the vessel as on schedule and expected to arrive at the beginning of September in a report published on August 25.
Construction of Alversund had previously been paused following Brødrene Aa’s bankruptcy, newspaper Strilen reported on May 30, 2025. The ferry had been launched by April 15, 2026, after several delays.
Brødrene Aa Eiendom later established Brødrene Aa Hyen to resume activity at the Hyen shipyard, as Baird Maritime reported on October 20, 2025.
The new company’s formation followed negotiations with Finnish defence group Summa Defence, though the talks ended without an agreement.
Brødrene Aa Hyen aimed to restart operations within two to three weeks, with work expected to resume gradually. The plans concerned the resumption of new vessel construction at the Hyen facility following the original builder’s bankruptcy.
Fjord1’s city-boat programme covers Nordhordlandsruta and Askøyruta, which connects Kleppestø with Strandkaien. The company said it is contracted to operate the two routes for 15 years, from 2025 to 2040.
