Italian engineering and construction company Somec has announced that it has updated commercial agreements with an unnamed Finnish shipyard, increasing the total value by over €57 million ($66 million).
The contracts, which now cover a total of three cruise ships, were expanded after one previously agreed option was converted into a firm order, a new vessel was added, and another option was confirmed. The original agreements were announced in December 2024 and January 2025.
Somec’s Horizons business unit will provide the turnkey supply of balcony systems, a new motorised vertical opening system for "Infinity Cabins", and windows and glazing for the ships' upper decks at the bow. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for between 2028 and 2030.
Oscar Marchetto, Chairman of the Somec Group, stated that the cruise market continues to show signs of growth, with significant investments by shipowners.
The company was also recently awarded a total of over €110 million worth of contracts for cruise ship projects.
