Norwegian shipbuilder Vard has completed conducting sea trials of a new commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) ordered by local operator Rem Offshore.
Built by Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam, Rem Power is scheduled for delivery to Rem Offshore in the fourth quarter of 2026. The CSOV is intended to support offshore wind farms worldwide through their construction, operation and maintenance.
Vard announced the contract for the vessel on July 17, 2024, identifying it as the third CSOV it would build for Rem Offshore.
The first two vessels in the series are Rem Wind and the lead vessel, which is also named Rem Power.
The newbuilding is separate from the earlier Rem Power, which was delivered to Rem Purus and operated by Rem Offshore.
Vard Design in Ålesund developed the design used for the new Rem Power. The shipbuilder said the platform is intended for offshore wind farm support operations with onboard logistics, safety, comfort and functionality among its priorities.
The CSOV measures 85 metres by 19.5 metres. Accommodation is planned for up to 120 people comprising 93 wind turbine technicians and a crew of up to 27.
Vard specified a hybrid propulsion system combining diesel-electric power and batteries for the CSOV. The arrangement is intended to support flexible, fuel-efficient operation.
Space has also been set aside to allow later upgrades or a switch to alternative low-energy propulsion. Planned onboard equipment will include Vard Electro’s integrated bridge system.
