Equinor formally named a new service operation vessel (SOV) during a ceremony at the Port of New Orleans on Saturday, June 28.
Eco Liberty belongs to a series of SOVs that also includes the 2024-built Eco Edison, which is being operated in support of the activities of Ørsted in the US.
The hybrid-powered Eco Liberty will soon depart for New York, where she will be homeported at the newly redeveloped South Brooklyn Marine Terminal.
The SOV will be deployed to support ongoing marine construction at the Equinor-operated Empire Wind lease area off New York and eventually serve as a residence for wind farm workers.
Like Eco Edison, Eco Liberty was built entirely in the United States and is able to accommodate staff lodging and meals in addition to workshop and storage space.
Accommodation for the crew will include private staterooms with en suite bathrooms, an exercise room, a cinema/training room, and multiple lounges. The SOV will also feature a below deck warehouse to palletise storage for windfarm tools, components, and supplies with stepless access to an onboard lift.
