Norwegian aquaculture service company the Abyss Group has placed orders for two hybrid multi-purpose workboats.
The vessels were designed by Marin Design. Each will have a length of 22 metres and a beam of 12 metres.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery in the spring.
Abyss said the workboats will operate continuously with two shifts. They will be used for net washing during the summer and for service and fallowing work for the rest of the year.
Accommodation will be provided for up to eight people in single and double cabins.
The company said crane packages and deck arrangements will support the vessels' work outside the net-washing season.
Electric high-pressure pumps will reduce noise and workload on board, as well as noise around the fish farms.
Abyss expects more continuous net washing to help keep nets clean and maintain water flow through the production cycle.
"The combination of high capacity and round-the-clock operations means we can carry out more operations with fewer mobilisations and shorter completion times," said Abyss COO Stein Arve Olsen.
Olsen described the order as part of the company's fleet renewal programme. He said the aim was not necessarily a larger fleet but vessels that can each take on more work.
Abyss already operates Fosnakyst, a 26-metre hybrid workboat that was also designed by Marin Design and has room for two shifts to support 24-hour operation.
In July 2025, the company ordered two battery-hybrid workboats from Vaagland Båtbyggeri. Those 28.9-metre vessels are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2027.
