Tug-salvage vessel Piltun rolled out at Russian shipyard

An Arc 5 Arctic-class tug-salvage vessel Piltun has been rolled out to an open slipway at Russia’s Nevsky Shipyard.

The multi-purpose, shallow-draught vessel can be used for patrols, search and rescue, in-shore fishing, and diving to a depth of 60 metres.

Part of the MPSV12 project developed by Marine Engineering Bureau and based on its SPb design, the Piltun will also perform tug breakdown duties, extinguish burning fuel on the water, aid and evacuate people, and deliver general and bulk cargo.

She is capable of transporting 12 passengers in ice conditions at small depths.

Vessels of the MPSV12 project are named after rivers where they will be deployed. Piltun is a 77-kilometre-long river on the island of Sakhalin. It flows into the Gulf of Piltun of the Sea of Okhotsk.
