Saam receives new tugs for Canada, Peru operations

Saam Towage has taken delivery of two new tugs for operations in Canada and Peru.

The first tug, Saam James Point, was built by Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam for operation in Southern British Columbia.

Measuring 23 by 12 metres, the tug has a bollard pull of 70 tonnes thanks to two Caterpillar 3512C IMO Tier III main engines.

The second tug, Saam Condor, was built by Sanmar Shipyards of Turkey to a Robert Allan Ltd (RAL) design. Like near-identical sister Saam Halcon III, which operates in Saam’s home country of Chile, the new tug measures 24 metres long and has a bollard pull of 70 tonnes courtesy of two Caterpillar 3516C engines.

Saam Condor also has firefighting equipment including a pump driven by the port side main engine and with a capacity of 2,700 cubic metres per hour.

Sanmar completes its recent series of deliveries with a new Z-drive tug built for operation by its own towage fleet in Turkey.

The RAL-designed Delicay XIII will be operated in Nemrut Bay in the Aegean Sea. Duties will include ship handling and general towage.

The tug has an LOA of 25.3 metres, a moulded beam of 12 metres, an approximate extreme draught of 6.55 metres, and two Caterpillar 3516C diesels delivering a bollard pull of 75 tonnes.

Delicay XIII will replace Sanmar’s current Nemrut Bay tug, the 2019-built Terminal XXIV. The older vessel will then be handed over to local operator MedTug.
