Bourbon Offshore has confirmed that the body of one of 11 crewmembers who had gone missing with the tug supply vessel Bourbon Rhode in the waters off Martinique has been found.

The body of the deceased seafarer was located by one of the aircraft involved in the search and has been recovered by one of five vessels that came to assist.

The crewmember’s family was immediately notified and they requested that the individual’s identity not be disclosed.

Rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the 10 other crewmembers, with maritime and air search resources deployed by the French and American authorities.

Bourbon Rhode went missing in bad weather 1,200 nautical miles off Martinique as Hurricane Lorenzo passed near the area on Thursday, September 26. So far, only three of the vessel’s 14-member crew have been safely rescued.

The survivors have recounted that the vessel had suffered water ingress and later sank.
