Robert Allan Ltd, Rolls-Royce granted AIP for LNG-powered pushboat

Robert Allan Ltd (RAL) and Rolls-Royce have been awarded approval in principle (AIP) by DNV GL for a shallow-draught inland waterway pushboat powered by LNG.

The 28- by 10-metre vessel will be powered by two MTU 8V4000 M55RN 746kW natural gas engines with a 70-cubic-metre LNG supply system developed by Rolls-Royce.

The pushboat is a variant of an existing diesel-powered vessel designed by RAL for use on the Amazon River but with internal changes including an expanded deckhouse area and the deck cabins, salon, and galley being moved up one level.
