Parker Towing, a family-owned towage company from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, christened the newest addition to its fleet of river vessels on Friday, July 23.

Jared Phillips, named after Parker Towing’s director of business operations, was built by Louisiana-based FMT Shipyard and Repair to a Gilbert Associates design. It will be used primarily for towing hopper and tank barges along the Mississippi River.

The towboat measures 128 by 34 feet (39 by 10 metres) and is powered by two Caterpillar 3516 diesels that each deliver 4,200 hp (3,131 kW) and are connected to Reintjes reduction gears.
