This year’s navigation season on the Erie Canal opened in Rochester, New York, with the christening and initial deployment of New York State Canal Corporation’s newest tug on Friday, May 17.

The tug has been named Elizabeth Cady Stanton after one of the famed leaders of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States.

The 26-foot (eight-metre) vessel will be stationed at the NYS Canal maintenance facility in Albion.
