The New York Power Authority (NYPA) recently took delivery of a new tug ordered from Rhode Island builder Blount Boats.

The Bristol Harbor Group-designed Breaker II has a length of 17.06 metres, a beam of 5.63 metres, a draught of 1.3 metres, an ice-reinforced hull, and two Caterpillar C9 279kW engines that deliver a top speed of 10.5 knots.

The tug will be used primarily for ice removal duties at the NYPA’s Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant, a hydroelectric plant near Niagara Falls.
