Hidrovias do Brasil’s newest river tugs begin operations

Two modern pusher tugs have begun operation in Brazil for local towage provider Hidrovias do Brasil.

Built by local shipyard Estaleiro Rio Maguari, HB Pirarara and HB Pirarucu belong to the same series of shallow-draught pusher tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd.

Each tug has an LOA of 39.6 metres, a moulded beam of 18 metres, a minimum operating draught of 2.4 metres, a normal operating draught of 2.8 metres, a deadweight of over 2,000 tonnes, and accommodations for up to 17 people with a large galley and mess on the main deck.

The tugs will be used to push barges containing bulk products in the Amazon River system.
