A Canadian ATB cargo barge carrying steel cables crashed into a dock on the Detroit River on Friday, November 23.

PML 9000 (pictured), which was being pushed by the ATB tug Anglian Lady, struck Detroit’s Nicholson Pier at a speed of eight knots.

The tug’s crews attempts to veer both vessels away from the pier, including rudder manoeuvring and going in reverse, failed to prevent the crash.

The barge sustained a hull breach above the waterline while the pier also suffered some damage. No injuries have been reported.

The vessels are operated by Purvis Marine of Ontario.
