Canal Barge welcomes new towboat to fleet

Canal Barge Company (CBC) of New Orleans has taken delivery of a new towboat from Conrad Shipyard of Morgan City, Louisiana.

Named H. Merritt “Heavy” Lane Jr., the MiNO Marine-designed newbuild has a length of 50.5 metres, a beam of 14.9 metres, and a superstructure with both floating and fixed sections to minimise noise and vibration. Two EPA Tier IV-compliant diesel engines deliver a total output of 4,474 kW.

The vessel’s hull form ensures adequate water flow to the propellers in all operating conditions. The design allows the transfer of full power through the propellers, minimising propeller vibrations transferred to the hull due to unsteady water flow.
