TUG AND SALVAGE WEEK

An unnamed shipowner in Israel has taken delivery of a line handling boat built by Shipyard Famagusta at its Gazimagusa facilities in Northern Cyprus.

The RINA-classed newbuild will perform a range of functions including ship assist, barge towing, terminal handling, supply, crew transfer, firefighting, and search and rescue.

The vessel has an LOA of 14.8 metres, a beam of 6.08 metres, a draught of 1.6 metres, and space for two crewmembers and two additional personnel. Two Volvo Penta D16 MH engines that each produce 551 kW at 1,900 rpm drive Nibral propellers via Twin Disc MGX5170 gearboxes to deliver a bollard pull of 18 tonnes and a maximum speed of 11 knots. Two additional Kort Propulsion augmenting thrusters are housed in nozzles.

The deck equipment consists of a Mampaey aft towing hook, tow pins, an aft crane, and an anchor winch while hollow D-type fender is fitted along the hull. For firefighting, there is a monitor with a discharge rate of 25 cubic metres per hour.

The electronics suite includes two VHF radios, GPS, an intercom, compasses, a fire alarm, and an ECDIS. Power for these is supplied by Mitsubishi 49kVa and 20kVa generators.

The occupants have access to a two-berth cabin, a toilet with shower, and a mess/galley. All accommodation spaces are air-conditioned.

The vessel will be operated primarily in the Port of Haifa.
