Two dead and 16 missing after lighthouse tender sinks in Myanmar

Two crewmembers have been confirmed dead while another 16 have gone missing after their vessel sank in the Bay of Bengal off Western Myanmar on Monday, February 11.

Sinpyaung, a 1959-built lighthouse tender, was reportedly at anchor with its crew carrying out construction work when it sank.

Local authorities that arrived on scene to render assistance managed to rescue only seven out of the vessel’s crew of 25.

Two crewmembers are confirmed dead while the remaining 16 are still unaccounted for.

Search and recovery efforts continue as authorities begin their investigation into the incident.
