Turkish builder Sanmar Shipyards has been awarded a contract to supply a new ASD terminal and escort tug to Italy’s Rimorchiatori Napoletani.

The Robert Allan Ltd (RAL) designed tug, which will be delivered in May 2021, is a near identical sister of another vessel in the same operator’s fleet.

The tug will be the fifth RAL-designed, Sanmar-built vessel to be delivered to the same customer. It will have an LOA of 28.2 metres, a moulded beam of 12.6 metres, a draught of 5.3 metres, and two Caterpillar 3516C HD main engines that will deliver a bollard pull of 82 tonnes.

The tug will also have winches, thrusters, and propellers supplied by Kongsberg and a Fifi1 pump powered by a Caterpillar C32 engine.

Sanmar said the unique hull shape will ensure roll motions and accelerations will be less than half those of comparable sized standard tug hulls.
