Tug joins Great Lakes Maritime Academy training fleet

The tug Mississippi has joined the training fleet of Northwestern Michigan College’s Great Lakes Maritime Academy (GLMA) on a leased basis.

The vessel is being leased for six months at a cost of US$73,800 to help train future deck and engineering officers for the US Merchant Marine.

Mississippi was originally built in 1916 for use by The Great Lakes Towing Company. It is currently one of four vessels in the GLMA’s active training fleet.
