Suderman and Young taps Alabama yard for tug newbuildings

Houston-based towage operator Suderman and Young has selected Master Boat Builders of Alabama for the construction of two new tugs in a series.

The tugs will each have an LOA of 85 feet (25.9 metres), a beam of 38.5 feet (11.7 metres), and two Caterpillar 3512E 2,213hp (1,650kW) engines that will deliver a bollard pull of over 57 tons (52 tonnes).

The vessels were designed by Robert Allan Ltd to comply with ABS class rules.
