Romania’s AFDJ welcomes Turkish-built tug to fleet

The Lower Danube River Administration (Administratia Fluviala a Dunarii de Jos; AFDJ), a sub-agency of the Romanian Ministry of Transport, has taken delivery of a new ASD tug from Turkish builder Med Marine.

The 30- by 10.5-metre Sulina 2 will be operated on the Danube River, where it will be used for a range of duties including maritime safety patrols, icebreaking, towing of vessels in distress, and firefighting.

The tug is powered by twin Caterpillar 3512C diesels each delivering 1,902 kW and coupled to Schottel SRP460FP fixed-pitch ASD units. The towing equipment includes THR Marine forward and aft winches.
