Vallianz Holdings, SeaTech Solutions International, Shift Clean Energy, and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) have formed a partnership with the goal of building an all-electric harbour tug.

The tug, which Vallianz claims will be the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, will be driven by a fully-classed electric battery system provided by Shift.

The vessel will have an LOA of about 24 metres and azimuth propulsion that will deliver a bollard pull in excess of 60 tonnes and a service speed of over 12 knots. Vallianz said the tug will achieve emissions reductions of around 150 tonnes of NOx and 2,000 tonnes of CO2 annually compared to a conventionally powered tug.

Construction of the tug is underway at Vallianz USP shipyard in Indonesia.
