New Japanese-built hybrid tug floated out
Japanese builder Tokyo Kisen recently held a naming and launching ceremony for Taiga, a new tug that will be powered by diesel and lithium-ion battery propulsion.
The hybrid vessel was developed with assistance of Dutch naval architects OSD-IMT. Once completed, it will measure 34 by 10 metres and will have a bollard pull of 50 tonnes.
The tug will serve the ports of Kawasaki and Yokohama following its scheduled delivery in December 2022.
