Japanese companies Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), IHI Power Systems, and ClassNK have entered into a memorandum of understanding with the city of Yokohama for the acceptance of a new ammonia-fueled tug to be operated at the Port of Yokohama.

The parties expect to have the tug in service at the port by FY2024.

NYK said the introduction of the ammonia-fueled tug is in line with Yokohama’s goal of becoming a carbon-neutral port.
