Italian harbour operator accepts new ASD tug

Rimorchiatori Napoletani has accepted delivery of its new Robert Allan Ltd-designed azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug in Naples, Italy, from Turkish shipbuilder Sanmar.

Measuring 22.40 metres overall with a beam of 10.85 metres and maximum draught of 4.67 metres, Marechiaro has a bollard pull of 50 tonnes.

One of two vessels ordered with a sister tug scheduled to follow shortly, the Sirapinar series is being built to RINA class and Italian flag requirements.

They are powered by a pair of 1,500kW Caterpillar engines. These turn Schottel azimuthing rudder propellers to give a free-running speed of 12.6 knots.
