Damen delivers ATD tug to Napier Port

Damen Shipyards Group has delivered a new azimuth tractor drive (ATD) tug to Napier Port on New Zealand’s North Island.

Kaweka is the port’s third tug slated to support an expansion project that will see the construction of a new 350-metre wharf in preparation for the larger vessels anticipated to call in the near future.

The tug has a length of 24 metres and a bollard pull of 72 tonnes. It was available in stock when the order was placed in March 2019 and thus needed minimal work for customisation prior to delivery.
