Rhode Island-based Blount Boats has been awarded a US$9 million contract to build an icebreaking buoy tender for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The 27- by 7.92-metre, steel-aluminium vessel will be designed by BMT Designers and Planners, the Virginia-based subsidiary of BMT.

Delivery of the new vessel is scheduled for June 2022. It will replace J. Millard Tawes, an ex-US Coast Guard tender which has been in service with the DNR for nearly 50 years.
