Foss Maritime to build next-generation assist and escort tug for US market

Seattle-based Foss Maritime and Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards have signed a memorandum of understanding to produce and market a tug design that has been modified to meet the demands of the US tug assist and escort market.

The first four of a series of at least 10 tugs will be constructed at the Foss Rainier, Oregon Shipyard, with delivery planned for 2019.

Foss will construct the tugs to supplement and enhance its fleet, but the tugs will be available for purchase by other US tug operators.

Foss has one of the largest fleets of tugs and barges on the American West Coast, with harbour services and transportation operations in all major US West Coast ports, including the Columbia and Snake River system, Hawaii and Alaska.
