Christening ceremony of SAAM’s third and fourth RAstar tugs

Valparaiso, Chile-based SAAM has officially put two new Robert Allan Ltd. designed RAstar 3200-class tugs, ‘Yunco’ and ‘Huairavo’, into operation.

The two tugs arrived in Chile after a 60-day crossing of the Pacific from China where they were built by Bonny Fair Development.

Equipped with winches for escort service, the two tugs will provide a full range of ship-handling services to the LNG terminal in the Bay of Quintero.

“These new units are part of the plan to renew and grow our fleet to meet the needs imposed by the arrival of large container ships,” Cristián Rojas, manager of the Chile Tugs Division of SAAM, noted. The vessels will also provide added safety in specialised oil and gas terminals.

The tugs measure 32 metres long, 12.8 metres in beam and have a maximum depth of 5.78 metres.
