Korean Port Authority plans to purchase ASD tug

The Korean Port Authority has announced plans to purchase an ASD tug to undertake rescue marine operations during emergencies.

The tug will will cost the KPA at least KW1.7 billion (USD$17 million) and will provide rescue services, fire suppression at sea, maritime pollution control and marine salvage.

Robert Allan Ltd. is expected to design the vessel.

The KPA says the decision to purchase a tug was due to the expenses of hiring salvage services when a cargo vessel ran aground near the entrance to the Kilifi Creek while sailing to the Port of Mombasa.
