Trillium And Toronto Island: The Centennial Edition
From Baird Maritime
The 'Trillium' was the largest and one of the longest lived steam ferries that have plied the short route from the Canadian city of Toronto to its nearby playground on Toronto Island.
A double-ended side-paddle steam ferry, 'Trillium' was launched in 1910. Rather like the famed "hundred year old axe", with eight heads and fourteen handles, she is still operating commercially.
A much loved craft of great character, she has been twice re-built and impressively preserved.
This delightful little picture book records the ferry's life and describes her avoidance of the wrecker's yard. It also very clearly shows the value of retaining some examples of high quality historic ships.
