From Baird Maritime:

Rear Admiral Eugene Fluckey, one of America's greatest ever naval heroes, died recently at the age of 93.

Fluckey earned his initial fame during World War II as Captain of the submarine USS 'Barb'. During the final two years of the war he earned, among other decorations, a Congressional Medal of Honour and four Navy Crosses. He sank more tonnage than any other US submarine skipper, including an aircraft carrier, and developed a number of uniquely effective attacking techniques.

Fluckey continued with his innovations during a stellar US Navy career after the war. Throughout, though, he remained a popular and very compassionate human being.

A good life very well-described by a careful and professional author.
