From Baird Maritime:
The second volume of a very impressive history produced by an improbable maritime historian.
The author, who works in environmental project management, has done a masterful job with this book and its predecessor. Your reviewer has read thousands of books of naval history and these are two of the best.
The Norwegian campaign, of course, took place on land at sea and in the air. With its long coastline and enormous maritime activity, the nautical theatres were predominant. They also represented the second World War in microcosm and gave a very good lead to the eventual outcome of the war.
It was a confused and convoluted surrender. While most of Norway's forces remained at home and intact under the Quisling puppet government. The Royal family and real government evacuated to Britain. Considerable Allied supplied resistance activity continued for the remainder of the war.
The three months described here were busy and eventful. They also marked the end of Norway's independence for five years. It is a highly detailed and very well written history full of insights.
