From Baird Maritime:

Having not studied the "Manual of Seamanship" for about forty-five years your reviewer was a little surprised but still pleased that this magnificent new edition has not changed too much.

As a joint venture between the renowned and rapidly growing Nautical Institute and the even more renowned but slowly shrinking Royal Navy, the Manual has an interesting provenance.

Published irregularly since 1908, the most recent previous edition was in 1995. This one, of course, is right up-to-date. It retains all the traditional stuff going back to 'Dreadnought' days and beyond. It also covers in similar detail such modern activities as Rigid Inflatable Boat handling and the use of survival suits and EPIRBs.

All-in-all, this new edition is a major advance. It is better, more useful and easier to use than ever.
