Gazprom performs first bunkering operation at Port Bronka

Gazpromneft Marine Bunker has completed its first quayside deliveries of marine fuels since it commenced operations at the new St Petersburg port of Bronka in Russia.

The company said that before this, bunkering operations around the port of Bronka having only ever been fulfilled at anchor.

The new Bronka handling centre is being implemented as part of a wider strategy to develop the most promising regions around the Big Port of St Petersburg project, outlined by the city’s government in 2009.

Brought into service in December 2015, the port is intended for the handling of containers and rolling cargo, and will be integrated into St Petersburg’s wider logistics network.

Once the first stage of construction is complete, Bronka will have throughput capacity for 1.45 million TEU and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargo, with loading quays running to a total length of two kilometres.

The first vessel to be refuelled at the quay was the 9,653-deadweight ‘Finnstar’ passenger ferry, operated by Finnlines.
