Van Oord orders second unmanned survey vessel from local supplier

Van Oord has placed an order for a second autonomous survey vessel from Dutch supplier Demcon Unmanned Systems.

Van Oord said the acquisition is in line with its goal of providing the same quantity of survey data for clients while utilising vessels that are less complex, less costly, and able to operate in areas that are inaccessible to crewed vessels.

Like the earlier Demcon survey vessel (pictured) currently in operation with Van Oord, the second vessel will be powered by low-noise electric engines, allowing the collection of data without disturbing the local wildlife.
