Fugro has confirmed that its newest unmanned surface vessel (USV) has been launched into the water for the first time and is undergoing preparation for initial trials.

Built by UK-based unmanned craft specialist SEA-KIT International, the USV will be capable of operating at long range even in heavy seas. A high bollard pull will enable it to tow large sensors and seismic cables.

The USV will have a payload capacity of seven tonnes and can also be operated as a mothership for other unmanned craft.
