Titagarh launches first of two new research vessels for India

Indian shipbuilder Titagarh Wagons has launched Sagar Tara (“Sea Star”), the first of a new series of two coastal research vessels (CRVs) being built for the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) of India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Designed to conduct oceanographic research missions, Sagar Tara will house laboratories and will be DP1 capable. The vessel is scheduled for delivery to NIOT in May of 2019.

The second CRV is currently under construction and is scheduled for a mid-2019 launching.
