The South African Institute of Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) has taken delivery of a new fisheries survey and dive support catamaran built by local company Legacy Marine.

The Icarus Marine-designed craft measures 13.7 metres long and is powered by two 410kW diesel engines driving Hamilton waterjets.

The boat also has a large aft working deck with an A-frame davit for deploying remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and other equipment. Among the other equipment are a multi-beam sonar, dive ladders, and side davits.

The interior facilities include a galley, a mess, and six berths for crew and researchers.
