Sea trials completed for Germany’s newest hydrographic ship

RESEARCH & TRAINING WEEK

German shipbuilder Fassmer has completed sea trials of Atair, a new hydrographic vessel slated for the country’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (Bundesamtes für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie; BSH).

The 75- by 17-metre Atair will enter service within this year, replacing a similarly named 30-year-old vessel in the BSH fleet.

The LNG-powered vessel will be used to conduct measurements and wreck searches in the North and Baltic Seas as well as in the North Atlantic. It will also be equipped for marine environment monitoring work.
