Russian shipyard launches research vessel Severnny Polyus

Russia’s Admiralty Shipyard has launched the Project 00903 ice-capable research vessel Severnny Polyus at its Saint Petersburg facilities.

Once completed, the 10,000-tonne, 83-metre vessel will be used to carry out geological, acoustic, geophysical, and oceanographic research activities in the northern Arctic Ocean.

Severnny Polyus will be operated by the Federal Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Service (Roshydromet).
