Leningrad shipyard launches Project 11982 research hydrographic ship

Pella Shipyard in Russia’s Leningrad region has launched the second Project 11982 hydrographic research  ship.

Built for the Russian Federation Navy, the 63.8-metre-long ship Ilmen has a 10.8-metre beam and a 3.8-metre draught.

Accommodating a crew of 16 for a 20-member expedition, the KM class Ice 2 vessel has a range of 1,600 kilometres, an endurance of 20 days and a speed of 12 knots.

The ship is intended to conduct research and oceanographic survey, test special equipment and participate in salvage operations.
