The Dutch training vessel Prinses Beatrix will get its own berth at the harbour in the city of Dordrecht following work to convert it into a floating museum.

Commissioned in 1960, the 53-metre vessel spent many years being operated as a training platform for inland shipping deckhands and masters.

The vessel will undergo extensive servicing and restoration of the hull paint to its original white before taking on its new role as a museum ship. It will be operated by inland shipping association Vereniging De Binnenvaart while remaining under the ownership of local shipyard Concordia Damen.

Vereniging De Binnenvaart said that it plans to place Prinses Beatrix back into service and running under its own power if an engine similar to its original one can be found.
