China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) recently confirmed its plans to build a new maritime scientific research vessel.

The DP2-equipped, ice-capable vessel will be built at CSSC’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) and with the cooperation of the Guangdong Institute of Intelligent Unmanned System. It will have a length of 116.7 metres, a beam of 21 metres, a draught of 5.4 metres, a displacement of approximately 10,100 tonnes, and an electric propulsion system.

Onboard equipment will include depth sounders and single-beam and multi-beam echosounders.

Once completed, the vessel will be operated by the Shenyang Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
