Damen to design Colombia’s largest hydrographic vessel

Damen Shipyards Group and Colombian shipbuilder Cotecmar have entered into a technical cooperation agreement wherein Damen will provide design, engineering, and technical assistance for the construction of a new hydrographic and oceanographic research vessel.

Cotecmar will build the vessel for the Colombian Maritime Authority (Direccion Maritima; DIMAR). It will be the largest vessel of its kind in Colombia with a length of 83 metres and a beam of 16 metres.

DIMAR will operate the vessel in Colombian waters, both Pacific and Caribbean, and will also sail it to the Antarctic region. It will have various types of hydrographic equipment, deck equipment including an aft A-frame, a laboratory, and a helicopter deck and hangar.
