Russian icebreaker Arktika completes sea trials

NAVAL ARCHITECTURE WEEK

The Russian nuclear-powered icebreaker Arktika has returned to United Shipbuilding Corporation’s (USC) Baltic Shipyard in Saint Petersburg following completion of its final series of sea trials in the Gulf of Finland.

The Project 22220 vessel will then sail to Murmansk before the end of the month. USC said the two-week voyage will provide the builders with an opportunity to further assess its performance in ice conditions.

Arktika is scheduled to be handed over to local operator Rosatom by the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2020.
